Arizona has elected its first ever female Senator, with Democrat Kyrsten Sinema beating Republican Martha McSally for the seat.

Ms Sinema is also the state's first Democratic Senator since 1994.

She takes the seat vacated by Republican Senator Jeff Flake.

Two more Senate races remain unresolved from the midterm elections, with Florida undergoing a recount while Mississippi will hold a run-off vote later this month.

With the Republicans already holding a 51-47 lead the results of the two remaining seats will not alter the Senate majority but will affect the margin or deficit for either party.
