Kim Jong-un's first official portrait unveiled

Kim Jong-un is following more closely in the footsteps of his father and grandfather with the unveiling of his first official portrait.

The unveiling took place at Pyongyang International Airport on Sunday (local time).

Revealed next to a portrait of Cuban President Migueel Diaz-Canel, the Kim likeness is smiling, wearing a formal suit and tie.

Experts suggest the portrait marks a significant change in the dictator's leadership towards that of his predecessors, according to The Evening Standard.

His ancestors' portraits are a staple piece of propaganda in North Korea.

The portraits were created by Mansuade Arts Studio in Pyongyang where their presentation is strictly governed.

Mr Diaz Canel is in the country for a state visit, hoping to strengthen strategic relations between Cuba and North Korea, reported The Standard.
