A terminally ill Gold Coast girl who won over the hearts of thousands after appearing as a flower girl at her parents' wedding has died.

Four-year-old Paige Skarratts was diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour over a year ago, and doctors said she didn't have long to live.

Not wanting to miss the chance for her to be in the wedding, her parents Jacob and Tania Skarratts decided to dash their dream wedding and instead get married 24 hours after the diagnosis.

The couple told Channel 7 that it was an even better wedding than they'd planned because their baby girl could be their flower girl.

After the wedding Paige underwent surgery and her parents were told to prepare for the worst, but she defied the odds and lived for another year.

Paige passed away on Monday (local time), three days before what would have been her sixth birthday.

In a Facebook post, her mother said her heart hurts but her mind was at ease knowing her daughter was no longer in pain.

"You fought the biggest fight that would put adults to shame in your short life, and I have and always will be so goddamn proud of you!" she wrote.
