US Supreme Court Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg fractures ribs

United States Supreme Court Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg has been hospitalised with fractured ribs after a fall in her office in Washington.

Ms Ginsburg, 85, fractured three ribs in the fall and initially went home before going to the hospital the following morning.

It means she will not be present for the investiture of Judge Brett Kavanaugh, Donald Trump's controversial Supreme Court nomination, whose appointment led to protests across the US following mutiple allegations of sexual misconduct.

Ms Ginsburg was appointed to the Supreme Court by President Bill Clinton in 1993.

It is not her first health scare, Ms Ginsburg has also survived cancer and was operated on by New Zealander Sir Murray Brennan at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.
