1 dead, 5 injured after truck hits pedestrians in Sydney

One person is dead and five are injured after a truck hit pedestrians before crashing into a pole in Sydney's inner suburbs

The driver of the truck is trapped inside his vehicle and crews are frantically working to rescue him, news.com.au reports.

Emergency crews were called to the crash at 8:20am (local time) on Wednesday morning. The truck is believed to have hit pedestrians before smashing into a pole.

Numerous patients are being treated by paramedics at the scene.

The crash took place on Botany Rd in Alexandria.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports the truck that crashed was a "B-Double", which is a large truck that carries two trailers.

Twelve ambulance crews and a helicopter were called to the scene as well as three New South Wales fire and rescue crews.
