Australia's mass deportations are ruining lives says elderly woman

An elderly kiwi woman kicked out of Australia says the country's mass deportations are disgusting, and are ruining lives.

Seventy year old Larice Rainnie can't go back to her adopted home, because of a drug trafficking conviction in Europe.

She's now isolated and is pleading for help.

Come Christmas Day, she won't be with her family.

"Look for two years, this whole thing, I haven't cried and I know if I cry, I don't think I'll stop."

Two years ago, she met a man online; who she says coerced her into carrying drugs overseas.

She says she was vulnerable, taken advantage of, and had no choice.

She spent time in a Finnish prison, but because she was born "here", that's where they sent her afterwards.

But when she tried to go back to Australia, where she'd lived since she was 17, the country she called home said no, and put her in detention.

Finally deported back to New Zealand, she feels lost.

"I want to be allowed to go home, where I've got friends, I've got family, people I know, I know the area"

Filipa Payne is an advocate for those deported here from across the ditch.

She says Australia needs to consider Ms Rainiee's vulnerability and age "everybody in life has misfortune and this is a woman that met a man on a dating site that changed her life forever, and let's not forget she was 68 years old and seeking love and compassion".

Ms Rainiee's plight comes at a time when Australia continues to send back large numbers of kiwis every year.

Newshub can reveal that between January 2015 and October this year, more than 1514 Kiwis have been removed from Australia.

Just under half have been arrested since arriving here, involved in almost 4000 offences.

However, Ms Rainiee hasn't committed any crimes since her return.

But says she's being treated like she has.

"I can't see any light at the end of the tunnel; it just seems to be a punishment on top of a punishment".

With Australia continuing its policy of sending back kiwis en masse, Ms Rainiee may have to consider calling New Zealand home, once again.
