A CNN TV show has been evacuated after a bomb threat in New York.

CNN Anchor Don Lemon - host of CNN Tonight - confirmed the incident on Twitter Thursday night (local time), saying, "We were evacuated in the middle of my live show. Bomb threat."

He said the New York Police Department (NYPD) is investigating the threat, and told his followers to "stay tuned".

CNN anchor Brian Stelter also said on Twitter the NYPD is investigating the bomb threat near CNN's New York office at Columbus Circle.

"Due to the threat, the office has been evacuated. Right now CNN is airing taped programming due to the disruption," he said.

Several fire alarm bells rang inside CNN's New York newsroom, signaling an evacuation shortly after 10:30pm (local time), the TV network reported

It comes after a suspicious package was intercepted at CNN's Atlanta post office in October, but there was no danger to the channel's headquarters.

The package was intercepted three days after 56-year-old Cesar Sayoc was arrested for sending a wave of parcel bombs to prominent Democrats, critics of US President Donald Trump and CNN.

Local news stations showed investigators covering a white van covered in pro-Trump and anti-CNN stickers with a blue tarp near Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
