'It's pretty sketchy': Missing US woman's unsettling final message before vanishing

Friends and family of Florida woman Carla Stefaniak are desparately searching for answers after she went missing earlier this week.

Ms Stefaniak was holidaying in Costa Rica, but failed to board her flight back to the US.

Her sister-in-law April Burton said Ms Stefaniak had sent her a final text, saying "It's pretty sketchy here," before stopping communication altogether.

Ms Burton and Ms Stefaniak had been texting her earlier on in the day, explaining that the power had gone out at the AirBnB where she was staying.

The family have set up a Facebook page called Finding Carla, where they have been posting photos of the missing woman and asking for people to help them bring her home.

Posts on the page seem adamant that Carla was kidnapped.

"At this point, based on all the information we have, we are confident that she was taken," one post said.

Friends describe her as a "free-spirit" and said she was "always smiling".

"Words cannot express how shocking and devastating this is to her family and her friends. If anyone can help us with this situation, it will be highly appreciated," said Ms Burton on Facebook.
