'So much' regret for UK man who snorted cocaine off Pablo Escobar's grave

A UK man who snorted cocaine off Pablo Escobar's grave says he now regrets the stunt.

Steve Semmens, a 35-year-old Welshman, told media he meant it as a mark of respect to the notorious drug lord, but he's now received death threats and has been kicked out of Colombia, where he had been living with his girlfriend and children.

"They said if they found me they would skin me alive," he told The Mirror.

"I can't see my children and that hurts."

The video was shot by a man claiming to be a hitman for Escobar's Medellin cartel, said Mr Semmens, in April. The pair had reportedly met in a bar in Itagui, Colombia, near the site where Escobar was buried after being shot dead by police in 1993.

"My mate asked me to do a line off Escobar's grave and it just went mad. It was funny at the time, but I'm ashamed," said Mr Semmens.

"Everybody said I was a disgrace and I was making the country look bad."

He said he wants to apologise to the people of Colombia and that he regrets his actions "so much", now he's planning to become a drug counsellor.

Visa rules prevent him bringing his family to Wales.

"Colombia is the most corrupt place I've ever been to," he told The Mirror. "Buying cocaine is cheaper than buying a Mars bar there."

Escobar was once estimated to be one of the most wealthy men in the world, with control of 80 percent of the cocaine market in the US.
