A 12-year-old girl, who gave birth in Australia earlier this month, was impregnated by her 14-year-old stepbrother.
Last week it was revealed a 12-year-old girl gave birth at King Edward Memorial Hospital in Perth after unwittingly falling pregnant at the age of 11.
It is now being reported by news.com.au that she was impregnated by her 14-year-old stepbrother, who the Australian Department of Communities confirmed was "known" to the mother but wouldn't elaborate on their exact relationship.
The West Australian understands that charges are unlikely to be laid against the teenagers. Despite the law saying those under 16 years of age are unable to consent, police do have discretion about enforcement.
The department said it didn't comment on individual cases, but said a coordinated response by state government and support agencies had been launched.
Family members are understood to be devastated by the pregnancy, with the mother reportedly also unaware she was pregnant until she went into labour.
No details of what will happen to the baby have been released.
