An Australian girl has given birth in hospital after falling pregnant at the age of 11.
The girl, now aged 12, gave birth earlier in January at a Perth hospital.
Neither the girl or her family have been named.
The Department of Communities told 7News a coordinated response is needed to ensure the safety of mother and baby during situations like this.
A dozen 12-year-old girls have given birth to babies since 1980 according to Western Australia Health Department statistics.
