Rescue crews have worked tirelessly through the night in Townsville, helping to evacuate residents as the city is inundated with water.

Rain has been falling for six days in the Queensland city and there is more forecast for this week.

Twenty-thousand homes - a quarter of the city's total homes - are at risk of flooding.

There have been no deaths reported yet.
