A Californian couple who shackled some of their 13 children to beds and starved them have pleaded guilty to torture and other abuses.

In the case dubbed the 'House of Horrors', David and Louise Turpin were arrested when their 17-year-old daughter escaped from the family's home and called emergency services.

Police found that the children, ranging in age from two to 29, had been starved to the extent that it stunted their growth. They were also beaten and put in cages.

Charges were laid over abuse towards 12 of them, with a lack of evidence against the parents regarding their youngest child.
