US President Donald Trump's former personal lawyer Michael Cohen is addressing the country's Congress, with what has already been an explosive testimonial.

Cohen's prepared statement, which was given to US media before his appearance, accuses the President of being a "racist", a "conman" and a "cheat".

Cohen also alleges that Mr Trump knew in advance about the release of emails by the WikiLeaks website aimed at hurting Hillary Clinton during the 2016 election.

Mr Trump's 'fixer' had previously pleaded guilty to lying to Congress during investigations into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.

The President, who is currently in Vietnam for his summit with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Un, has responded to Cohen's written testimonial, calling the allegations lies.

"He is lying in order to reduce his prison time."
