UK columnist Katie Hopkins reveals death threat from New Zealander

Controversial British media personality Katie Hopkins has revealed a death threat she received from someone in New Zealand.

Hopkins was labelled an "idiot" and "publicity seeker" by Finance Minister Grant Robertson for tweeting it was Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern's "move" following the Sri Lanka Easter Sunday bombings.

Hopkins wrote she expected Jacinda Ardern to be "dressed as the Pope, ringing church bells across New Zealand and praying in Latin in Parliament by noon".

The tweet was in response to Hopkins' previous criticism of Ardern donning a hijab following the Christchurch mosque attacks on March 15.

The media personality posted the threatening email on Twitter on Tuesday evening local time.

The email stated: "You are a dead woman walking, you are being stalked, the evils are not far behind you, you anal sex loving whore."

Hopkins captioned the post: "The peace-loving peoples of New Zealand," drawing a circle around the "nz" in the email address.

Newshub can reveal the sender of the email has sent threatening messages in the past to political leaders including Jacinda Ardern, David Cunliffe, Paula Bennett and Bill English.

One Twitter user wrote Hopkins was "inciting hatred" by posting the email.

"You are inciting hatred against the people of New Zealand. We all get hate messages... but it's not good to stir up hatred against a country," the user wrote.

Robertson told The AM Show on Tuesday morning "she is an idiot".

"I am not sure if she thinks that Jacinda is the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka as well as the Prime Minister of New Zealand.

"Katie Hopkins is a publicity seeker, and I hope that's the last time I say her name on TV."

Radio host Sean Plunket also lashed out at the Brit on Magic Talk on Tuesday, saying her comments were an "attack on New Zealanders".

"Katie Hopkins' attack on our Prime Minister was unjustified, but her snarky sarcastic extremist tweet after the Sri Lanka bombings isn't just an attack on Jacinda Ardern, it is an attack on New Zealanders.

"She's a failed soldier, a failed talk host, a failed celebrity and a failed human being. She is a successful online troll, racist, Islamophobe and xenophobe."

Hopkins was once dubbed as "Britain's most hated woman", and was fired from her talk show at the London Broadcasting Company for tweeting "we need a final solution" following the Manchester bombings in 2017.
