Police are treating the death of a 17-year-old show jumping student in the UK as homicide, and have charged a 17-year-old boy in connection.

Emergency services were called to an address, believed to the home of Ellie Gould, in Wiltshire on Friday afternoon (local time), the Daily Mail reports.

She was declared dead at the scene.

The suspect will appear in the Salisbury Magistrates' Court on Tuesday local time, charged with the girl's murder.

A Wiltshire Police spokesman told the Daily Mail inquiries into the death were continuing. The suspect was reportedly known to the victim.

Ellie was a show jumper and had attended Hardenhuish School. Principal Lisa Percy thanked people for their support.

"We would like to express our thanks to all partner agencies who have supported us too," she told the Daily Mail.

"The students, staff and parents have found comfort in being together and paying their respects to Ellie and our thoughts remain with her family and friends at this time."

Ellie's family have reportedly requested privacy.
