German police are investigating the deaths of three people, found impaled by crossbow bolts at a hotel.

Staff discovered the bodies in a room alongside two crossbows, BBC News reports.

The three victims are a man in his fifties and two women aged 30 and 33.

Evidence suggests no one else was involved, and a guest staying at the hotel said it had been a "quiet night".

The trio - all German - had booked in for three nights, but hadn't ordered breakfast for the next morning.

It's not clear what the relationship between the trio was, Sky News reported.

A post-mortem has been ordered.
