A 50-year-old man has been arrested in Sydney with police alleging he performed "sexual" acts in front of a woman and her four children.

A New South Wales police statement said about 12pm Monday (local time), a woman and her four children were having a picnic in a western Sydney park.

The statement said the children were playing before they reported to their mother they had seen a man performing a "sexual act".

Police were told the woman then saw the man commit further sexual acts in the park, in front of other women and children, the statement said.

"The incidents were reported to police who attended and arrested a 50-year-old man as he rode his bike."

Police said he was charged with four counts of intentionally carrying out a sexual act with children and two counts of carrying out a sexual act with another without consent.

"He was refused bail," the statement said. "Meanwhile, inquiries are continuing."
