Pregnant woman killed, baby critical in London stabbing attack

An eight-months pregnant woman is dead and her baby in a critical condition after she was brutally stabbed in London.

Kellymary Fauvrelle, 26,  was reportedly attacked in the early hours of Saturday morning ( local time). Emergency services raced to the incident and her baby was delivered alive. However Fauvrelle suffered fatal knife wounds and couldn't be saved.

"We sent an incident response officer, two ambulance crews, two medics in response cars and an advanced paramedic to the scene. We also dispatched London's Air Ambulance," a spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service told the Independent.

"We took one person to hospital as a priority. Sadly, despite the extensive efforts of medics, another person died at the scene."

A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder. Detectives say they are keeping an open mind regarding his alleged motive.

"This is a horrific incident in which a young mother has lost her life and her child is critically ill," said DCI Mick Norman from the Metropolitan Police.

"At the forefront of our enquiries is understanding what exactly has lead to these tragic circumstances, and we are doing everything we can to establish the facts."

"Violence against women has no place in our city, and horrific murders in the home like this show the scale of the problem we face," tweeted Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London.

"My heart goes out to this innocent child, and to the mother they have so tragically lost."
