A heart-breaking Twitter post from the son of a late French billionaire who recently lost his daughter has gone viral.

Ben Goldsmith, the son of tycoon and politician Sir James Goldsmith, posted on Twitter last week about the death of his daughter Iris.

"Dear God, please can I have my beautiful, brilliant, kind little girl back, please God. And if not, please take extra special care of her. I love her so so much and I’m so proud of her. It hurts me so much I can’t describe," he wrote.

Many users shared their condolences.

"Such a shining, beautiful and utterly loved young girl - what an utter tragedy, immeasurable loss our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family," said one users. Another simply said: "There are no words."

The post has since received more than 11,000 likes and nearly 800 retweets.

The Guardian reports that his 15-year-old daughter died in a quad bike accident at the family's farm last Monday (local time) in Somerset, England.

A private funeral was held on Wednesday in London, with the heart-broken father and Iris's younger brother Frankie photographed carrying her coffin. Singer Emeli Sandé performed at the funeral.

An inquest was opened into the death on Friday (local time), reports Sky News, but it is not being treated as suspicious.

"There is only limited information available to me at present, but I understand she was the driver of a left-hand drive all terrain-type vehicle when it turned over for reasons that are yet to be established, and as a result, it is believed she suffered fatal injuries," said coroner Tony Williams.

Another inquest hearing will be held later this year.
