A UK beauty pageant contestant has been left with horrific injuries after she was allegedly attacked while on her way home.

Emma Clark, 27, told ChronicleLive she felt "absolutely fantastic" while competing in the North East Calender Girls final in Newcastle on Sunday night (local time).

On her way home from the event with her family, Clark claims a male stranger allegedly broke her nose in an unprovoked attack - mere seconds after she got off the Metro.

The 27-year-old said she feels "absolutely devastated" over the traumatic injury.

"I can't sneeze without the pain going right through to the back of my eyes... I now feel ugly and look like something out of the Muppets because of my nose."

Clark said the competition was a "brilliant night" and helped boost her confidence after suffering with mental health issues.

"This has knocked me right back... I feel absolutely awful," she told ChronicleLive.

A 55-year-old man was arrested by Northumbria Police on suspicion of assault, but has since been released under investigation.

Clark said her broken nose is causing her extreme pain and will need to be operated on - however, doctors are unable to do anything until Friday (local time).

Inquiries into the allegedly unprovoked attack are ongoing.
