The man who raped and murdered aspiring comedian Eurydice Dixon in a Melbourne park has been sentenced to life in prison on Monday, with a minimum non-parole period of 35 years.

Jaymes Todd, then 19, stalked Dixon, 22, for over an hour and for more than four-kilometres before he attacked her in Princes Park on June 12 last year.

The young comedian was walking home through the Carlton North park after performing a stand-up gig. She was only a few-hundred-metres from her home when Todd attacked her.

After killing Dixon, Todd purchased a pie and coffee and went back to the scene of the crime. He then googled rape, pornography and stories about his victim, 7News reports.

In his sentencing remarks on Monday, Justice Stephen Kaye called Todd's actions "pure and unmitigated evil", saying Dixon was "totally vulnerable and defenceless".

"You knew what you were doing was wrong," said Justice Kaye.

The victim's father, Jeremy Dixon, said outside court that he hopes Todd will "get better and realise what he's done".

"Eurydice herself should be remembered as her friends will remember her - for her wit, her courage and her kindness, not for her death," he told reporters in Melbourne.

Todd, who has autism, has also been diagnosed with sexual sadism disorder since being in police custody. He fantasised about violent rape ending in a woman's death before murdering the 22-year-old, 7News reports.

Justice Kaye said Todd's sexual sadism disorder and "dark and sick fantasy" encouraged the crime - not his mild autism.

He also labelled Todd's upbringing, such as growing up in a "complete squalor", as mitigating factors.
