An Australian father whose 12-year-old son died after being hit by a car as he walked to school has spoken out about the tragedy.
The father, who can't be named for legal reasons, says the family haven't slept since the incident on Friday.
Speaking to Daily Mail Australia, he said they have begun to make preparations for his son's funeral.
"It's just terrible, I didn't sleep at all last night, we haven't slept.
"It doesn't make any sense."
A 36-year-old man is in custody in relation to the incident, which happened in the Sydney suburb of Hurstville, news.com.au reports. The boy was struck by the car before it collided with a fence.
"They [the parents] have let their son head off to school and unfortunately he hasn't come home," New South Wales Police Acting Chief Inspector told radio station 2GB on Friday.
The alleged offender will reappear in court in November.
