A Perth father has reportedly lost his Family Tax Benefit cut because his son wasn't vaccinated.

His four-year-old son Zandyr can't get vaccinated because he has leukaemia, 7 News reports.

Daniel Turner booked his son to have his injections, but was diagnosed with cancer only a couple of weeks before the appointment.

Centrelink, the Australian social security payment department, has now reportedly cut Daniel's family benefit payments.

Having your children vaccinated is a requirement for getting the Family Tax Benefit in Australia.

"The stress of my son being in hospital with cancer is enough to break a lot of people and I'm close to breaking," Turner told 7 News.

"But this stuff with Centrelink? It's impacted my mental health like you wouldn't believe."

Zandyr's cancer means he can't now be vaccinated, causing Centrelink to cut Daniel's family benefit payment by $A200 ($NZ213).

The family takes regular car trips to Perth Children's Hospital, about an hour from their home.

"They [Centrelink] know he has cancer. They know he has leukemia," Daniel told 7 News.

"They've got all the paperwork from the doctor for that, I had to submit it three times."

"On Monday they rang me again and said oh we need bank details because the bank details you supplied aren't good enough," he said.

Centrelink apologised to Daniel for the distress they've caused him, and they offered to put him in touch with their own social support network.

Zandyr has undergone treatment at the hospital after his diagnosis, and he still needs to have more chemotherapy.
