Donald Trump booed at World Series game hours after announcing death of IS leader

US President Donald Trump was booed during Game 5 of the MLB World Series on Sunday night (local time), fresh after announcing the killing of Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

The sold-out stadium greeted him with boos and chants of "impeach Trump" and "lock him up" - a nod to a motto his supporters used against Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential election.

The president was announced on the public address system as part of a tribute to veterans, and the crowd hit almost 100 decibels during their uproar, according to the Washington Post.

Trump was unmoved by the crowd, waving to fans and moving to talk with House of Representatives Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy in his luxury box.

The game was between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros and unlike every single of one of Trump's presidential predecessors attending a Major League Baseball game since 1910, he declined to throw the ceremonial first pitch.

The trip to the ballpark was the first time he had attended a Washington sports event since becoming president.

Earlier in the day, Trump announced al-Baghdadi died after being cornered by US forces in his compound in northern Syria during a nighttime raid.

The terrorist leader's killing marks the end of a years-long hunt to find him.
