Notorious message board 8chan to be relaunched as 8kun

Notorious internet message board 8chan is relaunching under a new name.

The forum was terminated in August, after it became home to a cesspool of extremist imagery and bigoted rhetoric.

On August 3, a man accused of opening fire in a Walmart in Texas was believed to have posted a "manifesto" on 8chan, justifying his violent actions. The alleged Christchurch gunman also used 8chan to post links to the livestream of the massacre, as well as a document detailing his hatred for Muslims and immigration.

But this hasn't stopped the website from announcing its relaunch. On Monday, a post on 8chan's Twitter account confirmed it would relaunch as 8kun. It's been retweeted more than 6000 times.

In a later post, on Wednesday, 8chan says: "If you were previously a board owner on 8chan, please email us at admin@8kun.net with your shared secret if you are interested in migrating your board to 8kun".

Fredrick Brennan, the site's original founder and one of those who wanted the site terminated, has expressed his outrage about the relaunch.

He wrote on Twitter that 8chan's "incompetent, callous, awful owner who cannot see, despite three shootings and countless other shitty incidents, that 8chan has run its course.

"I will continue to do whatever I can to assure 8kun does not come online, or if it does that its time online will be limited."
