For many, camping is a chance to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of daily life and head outdoors.

Spending a night or two in a tent is a chance to reconnect with nature and feel the power of the elements.

But that certainly wasn't the case for one rich teen in the UK.

Hattie Garment, who is more used to luxury escapes and around-the-clock room service, got quite a shock when she tried her hand at a more humble holiday experience.

The 19-year-old was a contestant in Rich Kids, Skint Holiday, a British reality TV show. As part of the show, Garment joined another family for a weekend of camping.

Peter and Louise Haywood had been saving for six months to take their two daughters, Katie and Chloe, on their first holiday. But it seemed their dream escape was more of a nightmare for Garment.

Less than an hour into the holiday, she broke down in tears when the reality of spending the night in a tent hit home.

"It’s not what I had in mind," Garment says on the show, as reported by The Sun. "How do people have fun doing this?

"I’m a bit stressed right now. I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed."

Garment admitted that she isn't used to slumming it or worrying about money.

"My dad funds my lifestyle, I’ve never had to keep track of money.

"Every month I’m spending £500-£1,000 [NZ$970-NZ$1945] on clothes, make-up."

As the holiday wears on, however, Garment is eventually won over by the camping lifestyle.

She later admits that she would consider taking her own children camping one day.

Whether that actually happens or not though, only time will tell.
