Jostling for a parking spot can sometimes be a messy affair.

With prime parks often at a premium, some drivers will go to extraordinary ends to nab a good one if they see it.

That's exactly what appears to have happened in Perth, in Western Australia, where a video showing a car park standoff has gone viral.

The footage, posted to Facebook by the satirical The Bell Tower Times, shows a man sitting in the middle of a carpark, fending off another car which is jostling for the position.

It appears the man is saving the space for a friend, and according to comments on the video, he sat down after being "nudged" by the Lexus, before saying "nup" to the driver.

People viewing the footage were split in giving their verdict of who was in the right.

"This is absolute bull…" said one person. "I can't believe people have the nerve to save spots like this, it angers me every time I see it. First in best dressed. Should've given him a nudge for sure."

Others sided with the seated man.

"I think good on him," one person said. "Person is coming with a car and he has reserved the spot and it is his. If he's standing there reserving it then it's his spot."

According to the video's caption, the standoff took place in the Mullaloo Beach Hotel car park.

The post has since been removed from the Facebook page.
