A UK funeral director got the shock of his life after he found he had been given a parking ticket while he was picking up a child's body from the hospital morgue.

Michael Fogg, from Sheffield, received the fine last week from the company in charge of parking at the local children's hospital.

"We was [sic] attending the hospital to bring a child into our care," Fogg said in a Facebook post.

He told UK publication Mirror he had been inside for about 20 minutes, before he came out to find the ticket for NZ$120.

It came as an enormous shock. He wrote on Facebook that he would not pay the private company who fined him, who knew "exactly what we was [sic] there for".

"I will gladly pay the fine providing every penny is spent on the children.

"To change a funeral director who is simply bringing a child into care is just totally disgusting."

The hospital has since confirmed the fine has been wiped, Mirror reports.

"As soon as this was brought to our attention, we contacted the company that handles our car parking and the fine was immediately cancelled," a spokesman told the publication.

"The fines are automatically generated, but can be prevented by letting us know on the day in circumstances like this."

It was confirmed by the spokesman that the hospital's processes would be reviewed.
