US family's basement inundated with animal blood

An Iowa family have been forced from their home after their basement was inundated with animal blood.

Drainage from a meat company beside the property has seen the basement floor soaked 13cm deep in animal bones, fat and blood, house owner Nick Lestina said.

The company, Dahl's Custom Meat Locker, have claimed it's "not their fault", according to Lestina.

"I'm looking into thousands of dollars with cleanup," he told local news station WHOTV.

"I don't have thousands of dollars to throw away at this."

The family, who according to local news reports are now living elsewhere, say many items in the basement have been ruined by the blood.

"I wouldn't really wish this on anybody, but all I can do is keep moving forward and try to take care of the problem," Lestina told WHOTV.

The family who own the meat company have said they intend to assist with cleanup costs, Des Moines Register reported.
