US President Donald Trump lashes out over Apple iPhone design

United States President Donald Trump has lashed out at the head of Apple, complaining about the most recent iPhones.

In a tweet on Saturday morning (NZ time), the so-called leader of the free world tweeted that he "far" preferred the home buttons on iPhones than the swipe-up feature on Apple's latest devices.

"To Tim [Cook]: The Button on the IPhone was FAR better than the Swipe!"

His tweet has been retweeted more than 10,000 times and liked by more than 42,000 users since 11:40am.

In 2017, Apple replaced the famous round buttons on its iPhone with the ability for users to swipe up to return to the home screen. The button had been part of the devices since the first model in 2007.

As is commonplace with most tweets by the President, the replies from other Twitter users were largely unrelated to the original tweet. However, some people were confused why the President was spending time worried about phone design.

"Lol. It's great to see the most powerful man in the world take a nibble out of the Apple," one user said.

Trump's criticism on Saturday isn't his first time hitting out at Apple over the design of iPhones. In 2013, he wanted a larger screen.

"I cannot believe that Apple didn't come out with a larger screen iPhone. Samsung is stealing their business. STEVE JOBS IS SPINNING IN GRAVE," he tweeted.

In March, Trump called Cook "Tim Apple" for which he was widely ridiculed.

Several American media outlets have contacted Apple for comment.
