A US father is being held without bail after his five-year-old son brought a class A drug to kindergarten on Thursday (local time).

Police were called to Lawrence School in Holyoke, Massachusetts after boy brought a bag of white powder into the classroom. He told his teacher the powder, suspected to be cocaine, makes him "feel like Spiderman" when he "puts it in his mouth". Differing reports claim the drug could have been heroin.

Holyoke police lieutenant Jim Albert told WWLP that Spiderman was stamped on the packet.

The teacher informed the school's principal, who reported the incident to police. The boy was taken to hospital as a precaution, despite the bag being sealed. Authorities told NBC News they don't believe the boy ingested the drug.

The boy's father, 29-year-old Benny Garcia, was subsequently arrested. According to a prosecutor in Holyoke District Court on Friday (local time), police found more than 200 bags of heroin and cocaine while searching Garcia's Holyoke apartment.

Some of the bags found at Garcia's apartment were also labelled with images of Spiderman.

The prosecutor said the father had an outstanding warrant related to a previous drug case from October 2018.

Garcia faces charges of drug possession and reckless endangerment of a child.

The Department of Children and Family Services have been notified about the incident.

Garcia will appear in court on November 20.
