Kiwi man plummets to death from high-rise apartment building in Surfers Paradise

A Kiwi man has died after falling from the 15th floor of a high-rise apartment building on the Gold Coast. 

The unnamed 22-year-old New Zealander who lived in Surfers Paradise reportedly fell from the 15th floor of the Breakers North Apartment building on Tuesday morning.

Queensland Police suspect the young man may have been joking around. 

According to the Police, they received reports a man had fallen from a balcony on Old Burleigh Rd around 12:30am local time (3:30am NZT). 

When emergency services arrived, the man was dead.

According to local media, the man was with his friends at the apartment at the time, it is expected they will be involved in the investigation. The man’s family in New Zealand has been notified. 

The incident comes just days from the annual Schoolies Week celebrations. 

Schoolies Week is a popular three-week  Australian leavers tradition, where Year 12 students leaving school, visit the surfers Paradise beach also known as the 'Glitter Strip' and celebrate. 

Police believe his death was not suspicious.
