A prominent climate change activist has caused outrage for controversial comments he made about the holocaust.
German newspaper Zeit has quoted Extinction Rebellion co-founder Roger Hallam as saying genocide is "an almost normal event".
The holocaust, where about six million Jewish people were murdered by the Nazis, was "just another f**kery in human history," Hallam is quoted as saying.
"The fact is that in our history, millions of people have died under dire circumstances," the 52-year-old said.
Hallam's comments have caused outrage online and people have taken to Twitter to express their disgust.
"The only f**kery I see here is from Roger Hallam. Almost a normal event? What an absolute arsehole," one user said.
"He's [Hallam] clearly a dangerous liability for the climate movement and an obvious crank," another wrote.
A spokesman for Extinction Rebellion Germany told The Telegraph Hallam had violated the Extinction Rebellion's principles.
"We explicitly distance ourselves from Roger Hallam's remarks which belittle and relativise the Holocaust."
