A thief with distinctive ears and a neck tattoo was arrested by police in the United Kingdom after trying to disguise himself with a pair of glasses.

David Springthorpe, 30, was being sought for a number of shoplifting offences and for breaching a court order when police found him in South Normanton, Derbyshire wearing his new look.

The police chased the man on-foot before arresting him.

His mugshots were posted online by South Normanton and Pinxton Safer Neighbourhood Team, part of the Derbyshire Police, who said they weren't fooled by his "cunning" image change.

Springthorpe was charged with the theft of several perfume gift sets and was sentenced to 30 weeks imprisonment at the Chesterfield Justice Centre on Saturday.

Social media users were quick to mock Springthorpe's attempt to disguise himself despite his distinctive ears and neck tattoo.

"Pleased with the custodial sentence. Doubt it will make much difference though. Unfortunately, it's in one ear, out the other with people like him," one user said.

"Love him or lobe him... it looks like he's a criminal," another said.

Springthorpe previously stole a steak in January from a supermarket, and a judge fined him £80 ($161) after learning he was a heroin and cocaine user.
