A Melbourne woman has been found guilty of manslaughter after she invited a man over for sex and strangled him to death.

Jamie Lee Dohleguy was charged with murder over the death of Maulin Rathod at her home in 2018. However the Supreme Court Jury found her guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter, The Age reports.

Dohleguy admitted to police she intended to kill the Indian student.

"I knew I was going to kill him if he came over," she told police.

While Rathod was on his way to her house, the then 18-year-old Googled "I'm going to kill someone tonight for fun" and "I will kill someone tonight, I want to commit murder".

While she admitted she strangled Rathod, her lawyer questioned whether she had murderous intent.

Sharon Lacy told jurors Dohleguy had a terrible upbringing and was diagnosed with a personality disorder, reports The Age.

She had become a ward of the state at 10, and lived with 24-hour-care in her house until February 2018. She killed Rathod in July.

Her mental state was so poor, her carers told the newspaper after she was arrested that she should never have been left unsupervised.

At one point, Dohleguy believed she was a werewolf and attempted to bite people while snarling like an animal.

"Ms Dohleguy was so damaged, and her mind was in such chaos that you couldn't be satisfied she had murderous intent," said Lacy.

Dohleguy will face a pre-sentence hearing in April 2020.
