A dog owner's decision to cancel Christmas after his pooch ate three-quarters of his glazed ham has gone viral.

On Monday, chef Luke Vandore-Mackay was shocked when he discovered he no longer had any glazed ham after his springer spaniel Huck, had eaten three-quarters of it.

"Christmas is cancelled. Stupid dog."

Vandore-Mackay posted on Twitter that his dog had eaten the 3.5 glazed gammons of ham he had smoked and cooked overnight in cider.

He said not only had he cooked it overnight in cider but had "glazed it with cider, mustard and clove syrup-basting it every ten minutes until it was burnished rich mahogany."

"The f**** dog has just eaten three-quarters of it. Prick."

But despite the thievery, Twitter users found the post endearing.

Many shared their own experience of naughty pets.

One person commented "Before I got to the photo, knew it would be a Springer. Went into neighbours on Christmas Day. Our Springer disappeared. Found in their kitchen about to devour their turkey which was resting on top of a unit. Dusted it off and left quickly."

Another said "my first afghan hound Banba learned how to open the low-level grill and remove the just cooked rashers. Never burnt herself or left any evidence. She rocked!"

But all was not lost as Vandore-Mackay was gifted a Gammon by the butcher he originally purchased the ham from.

And despite the large ham devoured by Huck, the springer spaniel managed to survive.

Vandore-Mackay later posted "the dog spent the night farting on me and needing urgent toilet breaks in the rain, but seems essentially fine and not dead of too much ham. Thanks to you all for making me laugh all not with tales of dog woe."
