Prince Charles wants to cut the royal family down to bare minimum - reports

Prince Charles is reportedly planning to cull the royal family when he becomes King.

The heir to the throne wishes to trim the number of working royals down the bare minimum, reports the Daily Star.

It's reported his plan to boot a number of the royals from duty follows Prince Andrew's disastrous interview with the BBC about his ties to convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

Andrew was forced to step down from his royal duties after the interview, during which he denied having sex with 17-year-old Victoria Giuffre because he was at Pizza Express in Woking on the night she said they slept together.

He described his friendship with the disgraced financier as "letting the side down".

According to The Sun, Prince Charles has long wanted to reduce the monarchy down to just a key group - himself and his sons William and Harry.

A royal expert told the Daily Star Prince Andrew's resignation from royal duties is sign of things to come.

"I think the Andrew crisis has definitely strengthened Prince Charles' desire for a slimmed-down monarchy," said deputy editor of Royal Central Brittani Barger.

"The process has already begun as we know Charles was pushing [Queen Elizabeth] to meet with Andrew and have him step back from his royal duties," she continued.

"I think when it's all said and done the monarchy will be Charles and his children [Prince William and Harry] and grandchildren."
