Russian journalist Alisa Yarovskaya has quit her job after stunning some of her fellow reporters at a news conference, while also commenting on rumours the president has had cosmetic surgery.

A week ago Yarovskaya, who worked for local broadcasting station Yamal Region, surprised Putin by asking him whether he could speed up a particular infrastructure project, Newsweek reports. The question was reportedly not authorised.

She then posted a photo of Putin to social media while the conference was still taking place.

"I don't see botox or a filler. He looks his age," she wrote on Facebook with the photo, as reported by local source Znak.ru. The post has since been deleted.

According to The Moscow News, she shut down rumours that she had been fired, instead insisting she had resigned.

It's often been questioned whether or not Putin has had cosmetic surgery. A plastic surgeon from the UK told The Sun in June he believed the Russian President has had "extensive" surgery.

In one case in 2011, Putin arrived at a meeting with a bruise near his eye, which was when the botox rumours began. However, a spokesman for the president played down the claims.
