A photoshoot-gone-wrong required a teenager in Argentina to get 40 stitches on her face after she was mauled by a German Shepherd.

Lara Sanson, 17, was taking photos with her friend's dog when it suddenly whipped around and bit her face.

She posted a series of graphic photos to Twitter, showing how quickly the dog turned on her.

The photos begin with Sanson placing her arm around the dog, but then went on to show the dog viciously biting her face.

The teen underwent a two-hour surgery where she received stitches around her eye and inside her mouth.

She told local newspaper La Nacion she didn't feel much pain when she was bitten, and she doesn't believe the dog intentionally bit her.

"I do not know if I touched its hip or if it reacted like this because it is old, or it was because I hugged it and scared it," she said.

Although she's experiencing some facial inflammation and eating problems, she is recovering well.

A local vet told La Nacion the dog might have bit the teen because of its old age and the pain it was in.

The dog won't be put down following the attack.
