An Australian woman has appeared in court after demanding money from her married lover.

Rachel Roche, 38, is alleged to have demanded NZ$155,929 from the man she was sleeping with, threatening she would tell his wife if he refused.

Roche has been charged with demanding property by written threats, which carries a maximum sentence of 14 years in prison.

The man's identity has been suppressed.

He is believed to be 50 years old, reports WA Today.

Roche did not comment as she left court on Tuesday. She will appear again on February 11.

This is not Roche's first court appearance. In 2014 she was embroiled in a case in the Victorian Supreme Court, which saw a letter she attempted to leak suppressed.

The letter was between Australian television personality Suzie Wilks and her ex-husband Nick O'Halloran, reports The Herald Sun.

Roche was O'Halloran's ex-girlfriend.

A judge claimed the letter contained "highly sensitive information" which would damage the reputation of O'Halloran.

"She threatens to further make use by either disclosing the contents of the letter or disclosing the letter itself," said Justice Peter Almond at the time.

Almond said it was unclear how Roche found the letter. She was banned from sharing it, and was told to destroy all copies.
