'Egg Boy' joins forces with Kath and Kim star Magda Szubanski to raise money for Australia bushfire victims

Kath and Kim star Magda Szubanksi and Will 'Egg Boy' Connolly have announced they are teaming up to raise money to provide mental health support for bushfire victims.

Their GoFundMe page has raised more than $40,000 in under 24 hours.

"We feel that lots of money is going into short-term help but we need to be there for these people in the long haul as well," reads the page.

"It is going to be very hard for them in the coming weeks, months, years… let people know that long after the fires have burnt out we will still be here to support those who have suffered."

Connolly, a teenager, said he wanted to do something to help.

He told Sunrise he reached out to Szubanksi amid the bushfire crisis because he felt "helpless".

"Mental health is an area that hasn't had much light shone on it - the trauma is going to stick with people for the rest of their lives."

The teenager rose to international fame for egging Australian senator Fraser Anning after the politician blamed the Christchurch terror attacks on New Zealand's immigration policy.

In May he donated nearly $100,000 to the victims of the Christchurch massacre - money raised by the public to pay his legal fees after he egged the senator.

"I decided to donate all monies to help provide some relief to the victims of the massacre... it wasn't mine to keep," he wrote on his Instagram account in March.
