A Kiwi man who jumped an Australian fast-food outlet's counter and walloped a young worker after fries weren't included in his order has been sentenced.

Last October, Jackson Te Amo ordered a meal from a Gold Coast Hungry Jacks and later realised fries weren't included in his order. He returned to the store and approached a worker at the drive-through window, asking for cheeseburgers as compensation.

When his demands weren't met, he threatened her.

"How about I come in through that window and punch you in the head?" a prosecutor said the man said.

Te Amo then parked his car and angrily walked into the store, jumping the counter and slapping the 19-year-old female worker on the head.

On Thursday, in Southport District Court, he pleaded guilty to common assault and making threats. He was sentenced two months jail time, which was wholly suspended for 12 months - meaning he walked free.

His defence lawyer said the man had been through a hard period in his life and working long hours. Te Amo accepted his behaviour was not right and had since lost his job.

"If you don't do something about your temper you are looking at periods of time in custody. It was inexcusable," Judge Katherine McGinness said to the man.

Te Amo moved to Australia in 2014 and had a long criminal history, including for assault.
