A UK man has denied throwing a seagull at a person he was in a fight with and will stand trial later this year.

Paul Elcombe was in a confrontation with another man at a cafe in Plymouth when he allegedly grabbed the bird and threw it at his head, the Mirror reported.

Then, he allegedly used a belt to beat his victim during the incident in May. On Monday (local time), he pleaded not guilty to the charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in the Plymouth Crown Court.

"The matter was sent up to the Crown given the severity of the alleged crime," Plymouth Live reports.

It's been reported the seagull was also injured in the incident, where he entered no plea to the charge of injuring a wild bird.

"Both charges are connected and alleged to have happened on the same day," reports Plymouth Live.

Elcombe was remanded on bail to stand trial in April.
