An American family is putting holes in their daughter's bedroom wall to track down the source of eery noises.

Richard Smith told ABC 7 Chicago his family is being kept up at night by Christian Radio Station AM 1160, which has been playing through his daughter's wall for over six years.

His nine-year-old daughter Brianna said she has to fall asleep in her parent's Lockport bedroom because she can't sleep at night, with the radio often going off at 10pm or 1am.

Smith has resorted to pulling down part of the wall and opening up the electrical grounding to try and find the source but hasn't found anything.

Salem Media Group, which owns the radio station, sent an engineer to examine it to but could not identify the issue.

"He said 'I've got to be honest with you, I don't know what is acting as a speaker. There's nothing that I can explain why you are actually hearing it.'"

"Sometimes when we think we've arrived at a solution, the next season comes around, and it's back," Smith told the television news.

One of the engineers at ABC Chicago said the noise could be coming from anything as small as a piece of corroded metal.

Smith said they just wanted the music to stop so his family can sleep.

"It's one of our favourite songs but not at 10 at night."
