US President Donald Trump has criticized a photo taken of him showing a horrific tan line.

The image, taken by photographer Willliam Moon, shows two vastly different shades of skin on the president's face and scalp.

The photo was retweeted by many including a Denmark man who shared the photo in black and white.

"OMG America, your president!" he posted.

Trump responded to the photo with his own comments.

"More Fake News. This was photoshopped, obviously, but the wind was strong and the hair looks good? Anything to demean!"

According to Moon, the photo was never photoshopped but used the Apple smartphone's photo app to adjust the colour of the picture.

Moon is not an official photographer for the White House, but has access to the premises and posts photos and videos inside and around the building.

Many believe Moon secretly despises the president, saying a professional photographer would have deleted the picture.

"What's wrong with his face? That's an awful picture. He's going to hate it. LOL!" posted one person.

Another said, "He is now on Dear Leader's hit list. He will be going through some things."

According to senior White House correspondent, Jake K Turx, Moon is being treated as an outcast.

"Many at the WH have been treating him like garbage," Turx posted. "One example, he was kicked him out of my interview with Jared, without explanation."
