Two children have been killed and 21 tourists injured in a horror speedboat collision in Thailand.

The Bangkok Post reports that on Monday morning (local time), two speedboats crashed near the Phuket Boat Lagoon in the country's Muang district.

It's reported that a boat, the Panan 5, was returning to the Royal Phuket Marina to pick up tourists when it collided head-on with the ALP 111 vessel, which had 35 passengers on board and was leaving the marina.

Most of those hurt were Russians, with a nine-year-old girl and 12-year-old boy - both from Russia - dying from their injuries.

Photos from the scene show people performing CPR on the injured and the bow of one of the boats destroyed from the impact. Video shared by Russian media outlets show the moment the crash happens.

The drivers from both boats have been charged with reckless driving causing deaths and injuries.
