Number of coronavirus infections hits 20,000

There are now 20,438 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in China, with 15 in Hong Kong, eight in Macao and 10 in Taiwan reports People’s Daily, China. 

In total 425 people have now lost their lives from the coronavirus in China and 632 people have been discharged from hospital.

The current death toll in China is greater than when the SARS outbreak killed 349 people in 2003.

Outside the Chinese mainland, one man has died in the Philippines of the deadly virus. 

Over half a dozen countries around the world have confirmed cases of the virus.

There are no new suspected or confirmed cases of coronavirus in New Zealand, the Director-General of Health has confirmed.

The New Zealand Government has made rescue plans to evacuate Kiwis from Wuhan.

An Air New Zealand flight departing for China is scheduled for Monday evening. 

An estimated 70 kiwis will be on the flight, with those evacuated to be taken to quarantine centre at a military facility in Whangaparaoa.
