Australian residents in a Sydney suburb are frustrated as their swimming pools have flooded with sewage.

Steven Fender, a citizen living in the upmarket suburb of Kathleen Ave, Castle Hill, said the "sewer tsunami" came after severe rain hit Sydney on Sunday.

The filthy brown water has filled Fender's entire backyard pool, seeped under the house, the storage area and garage.

The flood of faeces occurred when a blocked pipe obstructed the sewage from flowing properly, Fender told MailOnline.

"It came out of the manhole and all of the other outlets on the street and created a mini sewer tsunami," he said.

The smell, reeks of "faeces" and "urine" and has attracted hundreds of blowflies.

Fender said he contacted Sydney Water but received a late response.

The situation has left him frustrated as he believes he will have to clean up the mess himself.

"My main concern is health issues. I've never dealt with anything like this before, I don't really know what I'm doing," he told the MailOnline.
