An Alabama man has appeared in court accused of feeding a pet squirrel methamphetamine to make it aggressive.

Police say 35-year-old Mickey Paulk fed the squirrel, named Deez Nuts, drugs to make it vicious.

Paulk appeared in court on Monday, faced with three felonies - possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a firearm.

He also faced a misdemeanour charge for possessing a wild animal - his alleged "attack squirrel".

Paulk vehemently denied claims he drugged the squirrel on social media.

"Deez Nutz, formally accused of being fed meth to be an 'aggressive attack squirrel' was never fed meth and is alive and healthy as can be," read a November post on Paulk's Facebook page.

"He was never in any danger whatsoever until he was released by authorities due to these ridiculous accusations."

The sheriff's office confirmed it released the squirrel back into the wild, reports WHNT News.
